2010 Greenwich Men's Town Golf Tournament at the Griff Sponsored by the Dowling Group and vineyard vines®
The 66th Annual Greenwich Men's Town Golf Tournament crowned a first time winner this year as Goran Haegard ran away with the event, carding back to back scores of 68. At six under for the weekend, Goran recorded one of the lowest scores in town history. Goran displayed a flawless game even under the pressure of being grouped with last year's champion George Tischler and runner up David Pastore. Joe Nethercott, always a contender, was also in the foursome and as a group they demonstrated brilliantly the quality of Greenwich's golfers.
We partnered with vineyard vines® again this year to co-sponsor the tournament. Each player received a bag towel and a beautiful vineyard vines® "wasabi" green golf polo embroidered with the Griff's new logo. The Greenwich Times gave us a nod in their summary article likening the green polo's to the green jacket of Augusta- we will take their kind comparison. We see it as appropriate since the bragging rights earned by any Greenwich flight winners are at least equal to the bragging rights of Augusta's green jacket, right?
This year's tournament drew about 140 Greenwich golfers and over 150 spectators to the Robert Trent Jones designed Griffith E. Harris Golf Course. Joe Felder and his crew put on a great tournament as always even in light of Saturday's less than perfect conditions. The weather did not stop the completion of Saturday's round and it turned out to be a beautiful summer day. The course was in great shape and the greens where trickier than ever thanks to Dave D'Andrea's crew.
Congratulations to our new town champions in all the flights and all the players who participated in this year's event. This is a phenomenal event unique to Greenwich. There are few towns that can boast a golf tournament entering its 67th year. Through everyone's participation this event flourishes and is a proud example of what makes Greenwich such a special place to live. We look forward to seeing you next year on the first tee!
